Polyaspartic Garage Floor Coating in Clovis

Epoxy Floors Field Clovis covers polyaspartic garage floor coatings in Clovis — an epoxy base with a polyaspartic top coat, or a polyaspartic system throughout — for garages whose doors face the afternoon sun, with the short working time, the cure stages and the new-slab limits laid out.

Reading the stack before you read the price

"Polyaspartic floor" is used for several different builds, and the price follows the build. Polyaspartic is a kind of polyurea.

  • Epoxy base, polyaspartic top coat. The base bonds to the ground slab and gives the floor its body; the top coat adds UV stability and a faster cure. This is the build the estimator prices as polyaspartic flake.
  • Polyaspartic throughout. Primer, color and top coat are all polyaspartic. It cures very fast and leaves almost no time to fix a mistake.
  • Thin clear coat on an old epoxy floor. A refresh, not a new floor; it is no better than the film underneath.

Find out which of the three the quote means, and how many coats of each product it lists.

Polyaspartic goes on as a thin top layer. A hybrid stack: epoxy bonds and fills, and a slim polyaspartic coat above it deals with sun and scuffing.

What the numbers show

  1. Concrete slab Ground and checked for moisture before any coat.
  2. Ground surface and primer The texture the epoxy keys into, wetted by the primer.
  3. Epoxy base with flake Bonds to the slab; the flake sits inside the base, not on top of it.
  4. Polyaspartic top coat The thinnest layer, quick to cure, sealing the flake tops.
  5. Sun-facing surface Where UV hits; polyaspartic is generally more UV-stable than an epoxy top coat.

Short working time and a July forecast

Polyaspartic gives an installer less time than epoxy does, and a warm slab shortens it further. With July highs averaging 97°F, a batch mixed at noon can start to set while it is still in the bucket or on the roller. Laps, roller marks and trapped air are the usual results.

In Clovis the sensible plan is a first-light start, small batches, several people with spiked shoes working in a line, and the garage door left open for air. The installer should be able to say when the first batch is mixed and how much is mixed at a time. How a crew answers that says more about it than the label on any bucket.

Sun at the open door

Epoxy can amber (yellow) in sunlight, and that matters when the door faces west and stays open all summer afternoon. Polyaspartic and polyurethane top coats are generally more UV-stable, which is why people in Clovis often pick them.

Hot-tire pickup — a warm tire lifting the coating — is mostly a prep and product problem. A ground slab and a system rated for it reduce the risk; a thick top coat over a poorly ground slab does not.

Some systems smell strongly while they cure, so the garage is ventilated and people and pets keep out until the data sheet says otherwise. Floor coatings sold and applied in California must meet the local air district's VOC limits, so the products differ from some sold elsewhere.

Young slabs and fast-curing coatings

A fast-curing top coat gives moisture little time to leave the slab. In the newer northeast neighborhoods a garage slab can be young, and one that has reached 28 days may still be releasing vapor. Coating makers advise 28 days at the least, up to 60 in some conditions; relative-humidity probes set into the slab are called the most accurate test, and each system carries its own limit.

Vapor trapped under polyaspartic can cloud or blister the film. When readings run high, a moisture-mitigating primer goes on first, or the job waits. Put the test result on the quote and ask whether a builder's curing compound came off.

From install day to the first car

Many polyaspartic systems can be installed in one day, but install day is not the finish line. The sequence below is typical, and the data sheet of the product gives real times for that day's temperature and humidity.

Stage What usually happens
Install day Primer, base, chips and top coat, often in one long day for a two-car garage
The next day Foot traffic usually resumes, in clean soft-soled shoes
First days Shelving and light items go back once the light-use time has passed
Vehicles A car returns after the data sheet's time, often 24 hours to several days
First weeks Harsh cleaners, oil and brake fluid wait for the sheet's full chemical cure

Write down the date a car may return, and keep it in the driveway until then.

Polyaspartic flake costs at 240, 400 and 700 square feet

Polyaspartic flake on a sound slab, from the estimator at $6–$10 per square foot:

Garage Floor area Typical total
1-car 240 sq ft $1,440–$2,400
2-car 400 sq ft $2,400–$4,000
3-car 700 sq ft $4,200–$7,000

Next to full-broadcast epoxy flake, the top of the polyaspartic range runs $1–$2 per square foot higher, about $400–$800 on a two-car garage. Slab repairs and removal add to either system. Market estimates, not quotes.

Polyaspartic Garage Floors — common questions

Is polyaspartic worth the extra cost in Clovis?

The more UV-stable top coat helps when the door faces the afternoon sun, and the quick cure shortens the wait for a car. The cost is little working time on a hot day, so start time and crew count as much as the product.

Can polyaspartic go on a slab in a brand-new house?

Only once the slab has aged, usually 28 days or more, and a moisture test shows it dry enough for that system. A high reading calls for a primer or more waiting, so ask to see the result.

Bookings aren't open yet — a typical Clovis range in about 30 seconds.

Step 1 Range —
    Which floor is it?

A house or townhome garage, or a shop, kitchen, store, studio or clinic.

    How big is the garage?

Typical: a two-car garage, about 400 square feet.

Measure wall to wall; length times width in feet, or the square feet.

    Which coating system?

Typical: broadcast flake, the system price guides list first.

What shape is the slab in? pick all that apply

Typical: a clean slab without cracks or oil is a sound slab.

    Anything extra? optional

Skip if none apply; a stem wall is a flat add-on.

    What kind of business floor?

Pick the closest match; it only suggests a starting system.

How big is the area to coat?

Length times width in feet, or the total square feet.

    Which floor system?

Typical: solid color with grit; kitchens that are washed down with hot water often use urethane cement.

What shape is the slab in? pick all that apply

Typical: a sound slab with standard prep; choose the closest match.

When can the work happen? optional

Typical: after hours or weekends; the schedule does not change the range.

    Anything extra? optional

Skip if none apply; a coved base suits floors that are washed.

    Notes and photos optional

Optional: a short note or a photo of the floor.

Additional files (optional) If you like, attach any file related to your request. Nothing is required.
